Through this examination, SSC aims to fill 326 Grade ‘C’ Stenographer posts across various Central Government services and cadres. This recruitment is meant exclusively for serving Stenographer Grade ‘D’ employees who satisfy the required service conditions.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC Grade C Stenographer LDCE
Service Qualification
Candidates must be regularly appointed Stenographer Grade ‘D’ / Grade-III in the respective participating service or cadre. Eligibility is determined based on approved service length as on the crucial date: 01 July 2025.
Service Requirements (Cadre-wise Overview)
- CSSS & Railway Board Secretariat
Minimum 6 years of approved service as Stenographer Grade ‘D’.
Candidates appointed through competitive or LDCE routes must have at least 5 years of continuous service. - Armed Forces Headquarters & Election Commission of India
Minimum 3 years of approved and continuous service in Grade ‘D’. - Indian Foreign Service (Branch ‘B’)
Minimum 6 years of approved service as per IFS (Branch ‘B’) Rules, including successful completion of mandatory training. - Central Vigilance Commission
At least 5 years of regular service as Stenographer Grade ‘D’ in the Commission.
Age Limit
- No minimum or maximum age limit has been prescribed.
- Eligibility is strictly linked to approved service length as on 01.07.2025.
Salary Details
The notification does not specify a fixed pay scale. Selected candidates will receive salary and allowances applicable to Grade ‘C’ Stenographers as per respective service or cadre rules under Central Government norms.

Selection Process
The recruitment process consists of three stages:
Stage 1: Computer Based Examination (200 Marks)
- General Awareness – 100 questions (100 marks)
- English Language & Comprehension – 100 questions (100 marks)
- Duration: 2 hours
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer
Stage 2: Stenography Skill Test (200 Marks)
- Dictation speed: 100 words per minute
- Dictation duration: 10 minutes
- Transcription on computer:
- English: 40 minutes
- Hindi: 55 minutes
Stage 3: Record of Service Evaluation (100 Marks)
- Assessment based on APARs
- No revision in APAR grading is allowed after evaluation
Final selection will be based on combined performance in all stages, prepared service-wise.
